Pharmaceutical Honours Programmes

Course upgrade

A part of the honours programme is having 15 ECTS within your curriculum marked as honours-level, outside of your thesis.

For CPS students, all mandatory courses are marked as honours-level by default. Therefore, this requirement is already met for CPS students and there is no additional effort for this part in order to receive the HPPS certificate.

For Pharmacy students, however, this is not the case. The mandatory courses for Pharmacy have the ‘classic’ division of level 1, level 2 and level 3 courses, not marked as honours-level. To earn the 15 ECTS for this component as a Pharmacy student, you have the following options:

  • Course upgrade: you ‘upgrade’ one of the mandatory Pharmacy courses. In order to go from a level 1 to a H1 (honours-level 1), a level 2 to a H2 (honours-level 2) or a level 3 to a H3 (honours-level 3) course, you must upgrade your chosen course through an additional effort. You can contact the course coordinator of your chosen course and discuss options for a fitting assignment. Examples of such assignments done in the past include: patient interviews, making additional explanatory videos for the other Pharmacy students following that course (in the future), writing an essay in which you expand on a certain concept from the course, making a systematic review and much more. You are free to come up with your own ideas! If you decide to do a course-upgrade, you should send HPPS Course upgrade application form – Part 1 of 2 to the HPPS coordinator per e-mail and add the HPPS board as well as the supervisor of your course upgrade (most likely the course coordinator) in the cc field. After completion, the supervisor should send HPPS Course upgrade application form – Part 2 of 2 per e-mail to the HPPS coordinator and add the HPPS board in the cc field, so that your upgrade can be registered.
  • Elective space course: you follow a course on honours-level within your elective space. You can follow a CPS course, for example. You can check via Osiris which other courses on honours-level are available to join. Note that if you decide to follow the entire Descartes College program (30 ECTS), you are not allowed to count these courses for the HPPS, as you will receive a seperate certificate for the Descartes College program.
