Pharmaceutical Honours Programmes

What is HPPS?

Click to see the HPPS brochure

HPPS is the Honours Programme of Pharmaceutical Sciences and entails the disciplinary part of the complete Honours Programme. The programme consists of extra credits on top of the Bachelor’s programme for both Pharmacy and CPS students. Students of both College of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacy have the opportunity to participate in this programme. If you’re looking for more than the usual academic challenges, you may want to apply for HPPS. The contents and educational approach are aimed at excellent/gifted students.

HPPS activities

HPPS gives the opportunity to take part in extracurricular activities together with honours students from the Pharmacy programme and the Faculty of Science. Such extracurricular activities will consist of honours-level courses, research activities within the department and project on an individual basis or together with fellow honours students. It includes a disciplinary part and an interdisciplinary part which provides a challenging and nurturing environment. The honours programme fits the interest of the student due to the free choice of topic of the extracurricular projects.

Pharmacy students
The Honours Programme for Pharmacy students entails a total of 45 ECTS. These are earned over two years in case the Bachelor is finished within the expected time, or as long as the student is still a bachelor student when the study is extended.

  • 30 ECTS are allocated to honours-level courses. You follow your regular pharmacy course, but need to ask to course coordinator how you could upgrade the course to an honours-level. Check this with the HPPS coordinator. Besides upgrading courses you could also follow an extra course. Furthermore, CPS courses, which are honours-level courses, can be taken within your pharmacy electives.
  • 7.5 ECTS are earned through the disciplinary part of your Honours Programme (HPPS) by spending hours on projects and extracurricular activities, like symposia (28 hours = 1 ECT). Going to Update Meetings and Thematic Events organised by HPPS will earn you 0.1 ECT.
  • 7.5 ECTS are earned through the interdisciplinary part of your Honours Programme, the Science Honours Academy (SHA) where you work together with other students from the Faculty of Science on projects, masterclasses and much more organised by SHA.

CPS students
The Honours Programme for College of Pharmaceutical Sciences students entails a total of 15 ECTS. These are earned over two years in case the Bachelor is finished within the expected time or as long as the student is still a bachelor student when the study is extended. As CPS courses are honours-level courses themselves, CPS students do not need to upgrade their courses and, therefore, need to earn only 15 ECTS.
