The intracurricular part of the honours programme is divided into courses and internships.

Courses

Intracurriculary honours assignments are provided in the following courses. Please send an email to the contact person mentioned below in order to sign up for the assignment. You should send this email at least two weeks before the start of the course. Each honours assignment is worth 2 EC.

Internships

You should acquire 5 EC for a project related to one of your internships. This could be during your research project or during an internship in a clinical or public pharmacy. This project can be regarded as a “capstone” project of the honours programme.

Examples are:

• Doing internship related research in a public or hospital pharmacy
• Writing a scientific research proposal based on your research project

The extracurriculary activities form the largest part of your honours programme. You have lots of freedom to shape the content of your programme in this part. You are encouraged to follow your own ideas and ambitions to create your own personal project. Joint efforts in a group project are also possible. As part of the extracurricular activities, you count your hours spent on projects and activities which are not intracurriculary.

The hours spent on visiting scientific seminars or meetings also count for EC within this category. These could be:

• Honours seminars
• Symposia
• UIPS meetings
• Congresses

Hours spent on monthly honours meetings and journal clubs are also part of the extracurriculary category.

EC stands for European Credit. One academic year equals 180 EC, or 1680 hours. Within the honours programme, you must acquire at least 21 EC on top of your regular master’s programme. One EC equals 28 hours of work.

The intracurricular course-related assignments grant you a fixed amount of EC per assignment (2 EC). For the extracurricular- and internship categories, you are required to keep track of the hours spent on the activities.

We highly recommend you to create an excel sheet or other file in which you consistently note the hours spent on extracurricular activities and internship-related intracurricular activities. You can calculate the number of ECTS acquired by adding up all hours and dividing them by 28 (as 1 EC = 28 hours). Keep in mind that you should acquire a minimum amount of ECTS per category:

• Intracurriculary
  • Courses 6 EC  –  2 EC per course
  • Internships 5 EC – 1 EC per 28 hours of work 
• Extracurriculary 10 EC – 1 EC per 28 hours of work
